Navigate the Lake

The GPSMAP 536s comes ready to go with preloaded U.S. Inland Lake map data. For areas outside the U.S., the GPSMAP 536s has a worldwide basemap with satellite images in place of more traditional maps. The GPSMAP 536s also comes standard with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for superior satellite tracking and quicker acquisition times. In addition, the GPSMAP 536s can receive U.S. graphical weather data via optional GXM 51 satellite receiver/antenna. And with an SD card slot, it's easy to add additional maps without connecting to a computer.

Sonar Transducer Included

The GPSMAP 536s comes with a powerful dual-beam transducer that clearly illustrates depth contours, fish targets and structures whether you're fishing in freshwater or off the coast. The GPSMAP 536s are also NMEA 2000-certified for easy connectivity with sensors, instruments and future marine offerings.

Add Extras with Inland Lakes Vision

With the optional Inland Lakes Vision SD card, you can add a whole new dimension of exceptional features to your chartplotter.

  • MarinerEye view and FishEye view provide you a 3-dimensional perspective of map information, both above and below the waterline.
  • High-resolution satellite images to help you orient yourself in unfamiliar areas.
  • Auto Guidance technology searches through all relevant charts to create a route you can actually follow--one that avoids obstacles, shallow water, buoys and other obstructions.
XM WX Weather & Radio Ready

Add Garmin's GXM 51, powered by the GPSMAP's NMEA bus, and you can deliver U.S. graphical weather data directly to your compatible Garmin chartplotter. Plus, with a subscription, you can even use the GXM 51 to enjoy over 170 channels of quality audio entertainment via XM Satellite Radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Garmin 536S, June 14, 2010
This review is from: Garmin GPSMAP 536s 5-Inch Waterproof Marine GPS and Chartplotter with Sounder (Electronics)
I purchased the Garmin 536s inland waterway version chartplotter specifically for the routing capability using the accessory Inland Lakes Vision Southeast SD map chip. Being new to this region of the country and being an experienced GPS user I wanted a good marine GPS to help get us familiar with the waterways here. We just completed a 420 mile trip on the Tennessee River system including navigating through three locks. The 536s delivered in spades on this trip giving us a pink route line showing an actual route on it's screen wherever we needed it. We did not need to consult our paper navigation charts once on this entire trip for any reason, the 536S has more information available then the paper navigation charts have. All you need to do with this GPS to get a route is enter a starting and ending point for your route, this GPS will then plot an actual in-channel route for you (not straight lines between waypoints which I find to be very cumbersome on lakes & rivers). 3.0 out of 5 stars Decent GPS, built in maps nearly worthless, August 27, 2011

The built in 'Inland Lakes' charts are pretty much worthless. You will need to spend another $100 for each region you are going to boat in. Also note that Garmin's HomePort software is not compatible with the built in charts so you can't access them on your computer.

The interface is a bit clumsy. I have used Garmin's automotive products for several years so I expected much better.

Waypoint names are limited to 10 characters. I had created waypoints for the boat ramps on a local lake in MapSource on my computer and then transferred them via SD card to the GPSmap only to find they had all been truncated.
